Mercedes Schlapp has no easy work as White House adviser for strategic communications. Mercedes Schlapp faces a challenging job in her role as the White House's strategic communications advisor. She is dealing with an administration that has the president as the president's own communications director. There was a great deal of press attention after she was identified as a candidate to replace Hope Hicks, the communications director. The battle has been bitter. Friends of Schlapp and Tony Sayegh, one of the other candidates for the post started fighting in the media. Schlapp said that after she learned that the Washington Examiner had published an piece that contained negative remarks about Sayegh's character, she called Sayegh to have a private discussion.
